I have to believe it is this desensitization to violence and distancing from the realities of war which allowed us to hand away our civil liberties via the Patriot Act so blithely after 9/11. "

Yes! So true

I have a similar approach... I read news from trusted sources, I don't consume violence graphically. But I do read a lot to stay informed and not oblivious to it. And then yes, put my hands to work.

For the first time, the other night, I let my scrolling take me to some really dark places, harm to children, links to Epstein as a puppet for Israel, and on and on. I was tired, mesmerized and horrified all at once. Tidbits of what I saw and heard play out in my brain periodically since, and that realm, of these power hungry monsters, is so contrary to what most of humanity is living day to day. It's taking it's toll for sure. But I am so hopeful for our local efforts, to keep the part about Gaza up, to get rid of the surveillance company, and our ongoing Indivisible efforts. Thanks for helping keep the flame alive.

It's so easy to be sucked into it all. It has tremendous centripetal force. It takes conscious effort for me to keep from being sucked in and down into that dark whirlpool of horror.
